DMC(Defense Materials and Components) Convergence Research Department
There is an increasing demand for the need to secure localization technology for core defense materials and components to respond to the changing situation of neighboring countries and to realize self-defense. In order to meet these demands, the DMC (Defense Materials & Components) Convergence Research Department is developing localization and platforms for core semiconductor components for defense weapon systems by utilizing R & D cooperation with government-funded research institutes under the NST (National Research Council of Science & Technology) and other institutes and companies holding superior technologies.
The DMC Convergence Research Department consists of 15 institutions, centered on ETRI. ETRI, the lead organization, is building a fab infrastructure with NNFC (National NanoFab Center) and KANC (Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center) and striving to develop defense materials and components through technical cooperation with KIMM (Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials), Pukyong National University and Chungnam National University. In addition, we are working with companies such as IVWorks, Wavice, ODTech, XMW, Eltronix, GeneTel Systems, U-Tel, JMJ Korea, and Truwin to commercialize the developed research results.
The main research areas of DMC Convergence Research Department are localization of RF integrated circuit and platform development of GaN MMICs for surveillance reconnaissance radar, localization of high voltage switches and optical sensors for electronic detonator and platform construction, and the development of core defense module integration package technology for mounting the developed parts in the system. The final goal of the DMC Convergence Research Department is to establish parts independence plans applicable to weapon systems by providing semiconductor foundry services and building a defense component semiconductor platform.
