ETRI decided to distribute a fee-based French conversational voice database involving 100,000 sentences to businesses and academic circles.
The voice database has been widely used in travel, tourism, and language study. And the recently developed French database is expected to be utilized by voice remote control manufacturers, foreign language education providers, automatic interpretation and translation service providers, automobile and navigation manufacturers, and online portal service providers.
The French voice database is also anticipated to contribute to increasing exports when installed in voice-recognition air conditioners, television remote controls, and navigation systems exported to French-speaking countries.
The database to be distributed by ETRI consists of a voice database of French conversations, a database with parallel sentences of Korean-French conversations, and a voice database of Spanish conversations in Latin America.
The core technologies adopted in building the French voice recognition database include technology to plan and design the language voice database in specific areas, technology to recognize errors of language voice databases, and technology to assess language voice databases.
Since 2007, ETRI has established and distributed five languages' databases : Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish. ETRI added French language last year and will add German language this year, and Russian, Arabian, and Vietnamese languages will be added untill the year of 2018.
“The voice database of ETRI is able to improve the completeness of language voice technologies. Consequently, this technology will make a great contribution to creating new markets and strengthening global competitive power.” said Dr. Yeong-jik Lee, principal researcher of the ETRI Automatic Interpretation AI Research Center.
