Building a Nation with Powerful Cyber Security and Realizing Safe Smart Work
Frequently occurring cyber-terrorism and crimes are placing emphasis on the necessity to strengthen network security technologies.
Against this backdrop, an original technology was developed with functions to improve safety and reliability of wired and wireless Internet.
Recently, ETRI developed a highly reliable network technology with reinforced security and efficiency of IP networks.
This new technology is installed within gateways connecting wired networks and Access Points(AP) for stronger security.
Telecommunication equipment and wireless AP, including routers and switches, in Korea have thus far been vulnerable
to external attacks due to the lack of special embedded security technologies.
Developed by a Korean research team, this new technology provides domestic solutions that overcome the weaknesses of such open networks.
Network Virtualization and Safe Tunneling
The core original technologies include those for multiple authentication,
network address concealment, managed tunneling, and scrambled forwarding.
In order to realize these technologies, ETRI developed a highly reliable network technology
and control management system to enable much safer Internet usage on network systems.
In addition, in an effort to drastically improve the security of WiFi, which is particularly vulnerable to security threats,
ETRI is striving to secure a highly reliable WiFi technology on the basis of safe tunneling and by conducting an internal pilot service.
Opportunity for Progress of Korean Infrastructural Technology
ETRI announced the performance of a newly developed technology at the Highly Reliable Network Technology Workshop.
The institution aims to develop highly reliable information infrastructural technology in the form of packaged
solutions for Contents, Platform, Network, and Device(C-P-N-D) by utilizing already secured original network-related technologies.
“This technology will offer an opportunity for Korean foundational technologies to be utilized not only
for vitalizing smart work at the government and public institutions through strengthened reliability of the Internet,
but also for applications in banking networks and national defense networks that require a high level of security,”
said Dr. Seon-hui Yang, head of the ETRI Smart Network Research Department.
ETRI expects that this technology will contribute to creating a 21 trillion KRW market and over 20,000 jobs during the peroid 2020~2026.
Ultimately, the technology will help create new industries suitable for a creative economy and strengthen the competitive edge of Korean companies.
