If life is a quiz, traveling is a hint.
The new paths we accidentally encounter and the amazing moments on the way
become pillars supporting our life and crossroads to change ourselves.
Traveling is no longer a wish-list item; it is a lifestyle and a way of expressing ourselves.
How about taking a trip to a sophisticated travel library
and becoming a globetrotter in the center of Seoul?
Freedom and Courage to Leave
You are welcomed by the merrily flipping flight information board from the 1950s and 1960s making analogue sounds.
You are not at Incheon International Airport though.
Welcome to Hyundai Card Travel Library, where every visitor experiences a heart-pounding excitement as they take their first step inside.
In front of a flight attendants 'discover great britain' special exhibition is going on.
Walking into the library, you will also see a book cafe and terrace.
Located near the cafe tables, [Find Room] is where visitors can look over city maps of over 90 cities around the world
and buy a blank map for their anticipated destination to plan an actual route.
Adventure for New Discoveries
Blessed with inspirations for traveling, visitors now climb the stairs
to reach the study a half storey up, filled with rare ancient books and collections.
What is most notable is the collection of [National Geographic],
often called the 'Diary of the Planet', chronicling 126 years of history.
The entire collection, from the first issue published in 1888, is available here.
This rare collection cannot even be found at the magazine’s headquarters.
Other books are also rare and valuable pieces that generally cannot be obtained.
The books that particularly evoke both artistic inspirations and the desire to embark
on a trip include the entire collection of [Imago Mundi] the world’s first and only travel geography journal;
[The Museum Book] which introduces contemporary museums around the world;
the travelogue of Pablo Neruda about his trip to [Machu Picchu in Peru];
[Guggenheim Museum Collection A to Z], which introduces the entire collections held by this globally famous museum;
and travelogues written by renowned authors, such as Orhan Pamuk and Le Clézio.
In addition, this library displays rare books with different themes each season and screens silent films that have similar themes.
Broad-Mindedness to Embrace the World
Walk up to the first floor with sentiments of a globetrotter, and you will see a wooden dome ceiling that reminds you of a wooden igloo.
This interior was arranged by Masamichi Katayama, a creative Japanese director with global fame.
The most important element, the book collections, were completed by four global book curators—a travel columnist for The Guardian,
an editor of Lonely Planet, a travel editor of Time, and a prominent book consultant from Japan—who chose 2,000 books each
in their respective specialized areas based on their sophisticated discerning eye.
This library provides visitors with a range of content with the best quality as the largest travel library in the world.
Travel books with verified information are mostly divided into two categories : theme and five oceans and six continents.
Themes are art, architecture, history, food, culture, beverage, hotel, shopping, walking, biking, camping and so on.
You can draw your own travel plans on a big whiteboard in the [Plan Room] and
take a virtual trip in the [Play Room] where visitors are welcomed to experience routes recommended by the library
and routes of their own choice by using the Google Earth service offered on a large screen with 3D street view images.
You can then visit [Concierge] and talk with an expert travel consultant to design your own journey.
The consultant provides one-on-one services encompassing flight and accommodation reservation, itinerary, and travel tips.
The farthest journey in the world is the journey to oneself.
If you dream of an authentic trip to freely communicate with a new world instead of destination-oriented sightseeing at famous attractions,
how about first taking a short trip to Hyundai Card Travel Library, where you can contemplate the essence and value of travel.
