Fourth Industrial Revolution? The Answer is Software

The first day of SOFT WAVE 2018, held for three days from August 8 (Wednesday) to 10 (Friday), was celebrated by the participation of You Young Min, Minister of Science and ICT, National Assembly members, heads of sponsor institutions, and head of the host institution. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in front of the exhibition hall in the presence of these key persons, marking the official grand opening of the exhibition. As they adjourned to the inside of the exhibition hall, the event began in earnest. In his congratulatory speech, Minister You Young Min said, “Today, we are celebrating the third year of Soft Wave, which has been growing into the country’s largest software-oriented business exhibition, where new software technologies and trends are discussed and shared.” He added, “From our side, we will make sure to improve relevant systems to drive forward advances in software and provide full support in promoting the domestic software industry and its convergence with other industries.”

Brand New Wave of New Technology

SOFT WAVE 2018 was highlighted with cutting-edge technologies showcased by major tech companies, which caught the attention of the audience. Latest cutting-edge technologies and innovative ideas were presented by major domestic IT service providers and software companies, including LG CNS, Hancom, and AhnLab. ETRI was not an exception. The institute showcased a large number of technologies, including an Interactive English-speaking learning solution as next-generation promising technology, plenoptic video technology, visualization and authoring technology, details of technical support for information and communications SMEs, AI interview solution, an IoT-based smart air purifier equipped with UV photocatalysis. Notably, Midas IT Co., Ltd., ETRI’s joint research institute, was at the center of attention, presenting inAIR, its AI-based total recruiting solution. The solution was characterized by the convergence of three different technologies: neuroscience, big data, and AI. More than 500 companies, including LG Hiplaza, Hanmi Pharmaceutical, and JW Pharmaceutical, currently use the AI interview solution using inAIR in practice. ETRI also prepared a booth dedicated to the introduction of technical support details for ICT SMEs, such as technical support for error resolution, equipment support, support for high-frequency tests, and support for private testing facilities.

Enjoy Special Lectures of Your Choice as You Wish

Large-scale auxiliary events for SOFT WAVE 2018 also provided the audience with various activities to enjoy. Soft Wave Summit, held on the 9th (Thursday), was attended by a number of experts representing the domestic and international software industry, at which the outlook for the industry was discussed. There was also an event named AI Game Talk, which was attended by major domestic game businesses, such as NCSOFT, Netmarble, and Nexon. ETRI also participated in the talk, presenting an AI preliminary diagnosis engine capable of analyzing and predicting the behavior of gamers, arising from online game playing. A game company showcased AI technology aimed at improving game operation efficiency that caught the eye of game fans.
A special lecture on career path was also given, which was intended for students and job seekers. Many students, participated in the exhibition as part of their vacation activities, were given opportunities to select and enjoy any lectures they wanted while referring to the lecture schedule given. Through these lectures, they had a valuable chance to learn about occupational descriptions of each job title, type of businesses, descriptions of the right talent for each company, and preparation methods. Also, an outstanding-company job fair was held, where practical information about each company’s recruiting plans and procedures was provided.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this exhibition provided a glimpse of how future society will look. AI, big data, blockchain, and other cutting-edge technologies, once seeming far from actualization, turned out to be here with us on the occasion of the exhibition. It was also learned that their commercialization will come shortly. Keeping pace with these trends, ETRI presented various technologies in different fields at SOFT WAVE 2018, showing to the world that it will undoubtedly be a leading player in the software industry going forward.
