ETRI and Clever Logic CO., LTD have developed the world-first LDM-based next-generation terrestrial broadcasting system, that can provide 4K UHD and mobile HD broadcasting through one transmitter and one channel, and successfully completed a field test in collaboration with Jeju Techno Park.
On August 26~27 2015, ETRI held a presentation on the results of the ATSC 3.0(LDM) field test in Jeju Techno Park. In this presentation, ETRI released the field test results and held an open demonstration of the technology around the Jeju KBS building and across Jeju City. A number of broadcasting companies and home appliances manufacturers participated in the event, demonstrating their significant interest in the next-generation terrestrial broadcasting system technology. In this open demonstration, ETRI showcased the service for simultaneous reception and transmission of UHD and HD broadcasting through a single terrestrial channel, and HD broadcasting was well received indoors or while in motion.

Once ATSC 3.0 including the LDM technology is to be finally approved as an international standard, ETRI is expected to earn royalties based on core standard patents and assume a dominant position in the early markets for ATSC 3.0 broadcasting. “ETRI is planning to offer its core technologies for the Digital Video Broadcasting(DVB) project, a next-generation broadcasting standards for Europe,” said Dr. Nam Ho Hur, director of the Broadcasting System Research Department. “This will increase ETRI’s technological influence over the global broadcasting markets.”
