ETRI-CAICT signed MOU for 5G Standardization
On June 1, ETRI signed an MOU with iMinds, a Flemish non-profit organization, to cooperate with each other finding joint research projects and intermediate technology transfer in the fields of 5G technology, Internet of Things (IoT), and information security.

Upon signing the MOU, the two parties discussed various measures for mutual cooperation that include the following: collaboration for suggesting joint research with the EU (European Union) with regard to 5G technology, IoT, and information security; introduction of technologies held by the two parties and intermediation of technology transfer; and joint development of programs to support the entry of start-up businesses into the global market.

In particular, ETRI and iMinds shared mutual interests in mobile communication, Internet and IoT, U-health technology, and cybersecurity. In addition to mutual exchange of information, the two organizations also pledged extensive exchanges in terms of human resources, joint seminars, R&D projects and technology transfer.
According to the MOU, the two parties are planning to make a joint proposal to the EU Horizon 2020 Call, which is scheduled to be announced in September of this year. And the two parties will also cooperate with each other in order to support start-up businesses with the business creation and incubation programs implemented in each EU member country, and develop them into global enterprises.

“ETRI will make great accomplishments through joint research with the outstanding researchers at iMinds. In particular, Korean companies will benefit from iStart Incubation Program of iMinds and be able to make an entry into European markets”, said Dr. Heung Nam Kim, President of ETRI.
