For five days commencing March 13, ETRI held a conference to review contributions and prepare standardized documents to create international standards related to SDN.
Held at the premises of the Telecommunications Technology Association located in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, focus was primarily placed on the standardization of transport SDN (T-SDN), which provides a flexible leased line service for convenient use by automating and opening transport network management.
At the standardization conference, Dr. Yun Bin-yeong of ETRI suggested means of SDN controller-based protection to overcome network disorder. In addition, in relation with T-SDN, the conference covered a range of issues, including controller structure and modeling, and standardization of control communication for telecommunications with controller network equipment and management equipment.
The leased line service had been unavailable or has taken several days for operation between communication operators as well as in network environments consisting of different types of communication equipment, but T-SDN enables software-based connection within a few seconds or minutes.
“This standardization conference bears significance in that ETRI is able to discuss its R&D achievements with business operators for actual commercialization and help obtain international standardized patents for the produced technology,” said Dr. Seon-hui Yang, Managing Director, Smart Network Research Dept. of ETRI.
A fruit of the government’s continued investment in SDN and T-SDN, the standardization conference is recognized for providing an opportunity to develop practical standard technology domestic telecommunications that operators can utilize in related technological areas.
