On March 11, ETRI announced that it would develop highly trusted network technology with strengthened stability and efficiency for IP networks. This technology is projected to realize an exceptional level of security by being installed within wireless access points (AP) or gateways connecting wired networks.
This outstanding accomplishment is a domestically developed solution that can overcome the vulnerable security issues of open networks and is expected to solve the fundamental vulnerabilities of wireless Internet technologies applied to internal business networks within the government and public institutions.
In addition, the technology will be utilized for national infrastructure, such as power grids and national defense networks, and advance the era of wireless smart work using WiFi technology.
The core original technologies include multiple authentication, network address concealment, managed tunneling, and scrambled forwarding, and the researchers developed a highly trusted gateway and global control system to realize these technologies.
In order to strengthen the stability of WiFi service with vulnerable security, the researchers are also endeavoring to secure highly trusted WiFi technology based on safe tunneling, examining security suitability, and carrying out internal pilot services.
By using the original network technologies, ETRI aims to develop highly trusted information infrastructure technology in the form of packaged solutions encompassing Contents, Platforms, Networks, and Devices (C-P-N-D).
“Based on enhanced reliability of the Internet, this technology can be utilized not only for vitalizing smart work within the government and public institutions, but also for banking or national defense networks that require extreme high security,” said Dr. Seon-hui Yang, Managing Director, Smart Network Research Dept. of ETRI.
In this way, the new technology is expected to contribute to creating new industrial sectors within the context of a creative economy and to strengthening the competitiveness of domestic businesses.
