ETRI researchers developed technology that makes an objective diagnosis with regards to the status of depressive patients and severity of depression by using a skin conductivity sensor. This invention will allow the diagnosis and early prediction of the onset of depression based on vital signs.
The research team paid attention to the observation that the sweating mechanism of depressive patients was disrupted when they came under stress. Based on this concept, in cooperation with the research team of Professor Hong Jin Jeon of Department of Psychiatry, Samsung Medical Center, they tested depressive patients using a skin conductivity sensor capable of measuring slight changes in sweating. This result was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
ETRI researchers developed human body communication-based technology that allows the wearer of a wristwatch to collect data on any object only by touching it; the data are stored in the watch and can be transmitted. This will make it possible to monitor the behavior of the elderly and infirm in an accurate and specific manner.
This touch care technology, developed based on ETRI’s proprietary human body communication technology, allows the user to collect data on an object only by touching it, so that the behavioral pattern of the user can be immediately recognized.
ETRI researchers developed terminal equipment for emergency rescue services, which will significantly reduce the fatality of traffic accidents. This technology is expected to be commercialized in earnest.
As part of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s project titled “Development of e-Call Standards and Vehicle Terminal Equipment,” ETRI developed seven types of terminal equipment for the e-Call service.
The e-Call service is an application that automatically transmits data related to a traffic accident, such as the location of a vehicle, to the traffic control center by using integrated black-box recorders, navigation systems, or smartphones that can recognize a traffic accident.
ETRI proceeded with technology PR and overseas marketing in cooperation with its joint research institutes at the GSMA's Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition, held from February 25 to 28 in Barcelona, Spain.
ETRI presented four latest ICT solutions covering hyper-connected communication technology, ICT material & component technology, and IT convergence technology for local industries.
