ETRI researchers have successfully developed new technology for E-Cup, a cup-shaped wireless 3D charger that can charge electronic devices inside, regardless of direction and location. This 3D spatial wireless charging technology has been demonstrated thanks to the uniform field generating technology developed to overcome the limitations of the existing 2-dimensional pad-shaped charger. This technology helps maintain magnetic fields evenly in a certain space, making spatial charging possible within a small area.

ETRI researchers are developing cloud-based intelligent video security incubation platforms. This technology learns intelligent security models and provides optimized models for various security environments on the cloud platform. This technology will help small video and image businesses secure intelligent source technology, strengthening their market competitiveness and contributing to building a future-oriented advanced security platform.

ETRI researchers extended their warm hearts to 71 middle school and high school students with scholarships worth KRW 170 million. Through the "One Account for One Employee" campaign, money for scholarships was collected voluntarily from ETRI employees. This has been a long-held, beautiful tradition in ETRI. Until last year, the scholarships were provided to 100 students as a monthly allowance of KRW 100,000. Starting from this year, however, a total of 71 students will receive KRW 200,000 per month.

ETRI has published a book titled "The 4th Industrial Revolution in Korea – IDX, New Strategy and Insight for the Whole New Future (unofficial translation)", as a part of ETRI's Easy IT series, which has been published for the last 11 years. Written for the general public, this book contemplates strategies for the expected changes in the upcoming 4th Industrial Revolution. It mostly centers on hyper-intelligence, hyper-connectivity, and hyper-realistic technologies, the three dominant keywords in the 4th Industrial Revolution, and how to turn our national, economic, and social systems into an intelligent digital organism using those technologies.

ETRI has developed smart wear that is able to learn a human behavior database in real-time. There are 17 sensors and 10 actuators attached to the smart wear at the locations of each joint of the human body. The clothing compares the actual movements of a human user with the database, and if the person assumes an incorrect posture, it sends vibration signals to warn the wearer. This smart wear is expected to be used in sports such as golf and baseball where the players are required to take proper postures, as well as chiropractic exercise for rehabilitation treatment.

ETRI Journal, an English academic science journal published by ETRI, is going to be published in collaboration with Wiley, one of the most prominent publishing houses in the world. The ETRI Journal, which has only been available on the ETRI website thus far, will be published and distributed globally through Wiley Online Library, a specialized publishing platform of Wiley starting in August 2017. As ETRI is now able to employ Wiley's editing and marketing expertise as well as its well-established publishing platform, this partnership is expected to lay the foundation for ETRI Journal to raise its reputation as a globally-renowned academic journal with an expanded scope of subscribers.

ETRI invited Hyung Woo Lee, the CEO of Midas IT, for a special lecture under the theme of 'Management of Essence - The Answer Lies in Humans.' CEO Lee said in his lecture that the purpose of Naturalism and Humanism management at Midas IT is to reveal the true nature of human beings, who play a key role in a company's management, from a natural scientific perspective, such as biology and cerebral nerve science. He also emphasized that understanding oneself and the world with scientific reasoning is important for a happier and fulfilling life in the future, and this is one of the reasons that Midas IT pursues the business philosophy of naturalism and humanism.

ETRI demonstrated the outcomes of business cooperation with SMEs and the latest ICT technology development in '2017 ICT Technology Commercialization Festival' held in COEX from May 24th to 27th, 2017.
At the festival, ETRI introduced 22 technologies that can be commercialized immediately, including ultra-high speed close proximity communication technology (Zing), multilingual automatic interpretation technology (Genie Talk), an augmented spatial interactive system, and human body communication technology. The SMEs participating in the festival learned about the technologies held by ETRI through the briefing on promising technologies for commercialization and obtained information that can be useful in business operation such as technology transfer consultation.

On the 17th of last month, '2017 ETRI One Heart Festival' was held in the ETRI playground with the ETRI researchers and their families participating. Participants enjoyed the refreshing smell of the forest while walking along the trails and had a wonderful time with beautiful music in the mini concert held in the forest. In addition, various other programs were also provided for the participants, including hula hooping, survival games, balloon popping, a talent show, and a relay race. It was an invaluable opportunity where all members of ETRI gathered together and were united as one.
