The sun has set on 2014, and a new year has dawned.
The sunrise and sunset occur every day, but they feel more special at this time of the year.
Many people head to the mountains and beaches to witness these spectacular sights.
ETRI’s webzine staff, filled with hope for 2015, took the opportunity to visit Waemok Village.
A Place of Sunrises and Sunsets
Waemok Village is renowned for its view of the sunrise.
It is the only place in the nation to watch both the sunset and sunrise.
This is possible because there is an eastward cove in the seashore providing the same horizon as the east coast.
At the end of December each year, the village attracts tens of thousands of visitors who hope to enjoy the sunset and sunrise.
You can watch the sunset at the west side of the village, and the sunrise at the east.
You might even watch the sunrise with the same crowd who watched the sunset with you on the previous day.
Saying Goodbye to 2014
When one year ends, another begins.
The past year had a different meaning for everyone who gathered at the village.
The expression on people’s faces was a mixture of longing and expectation for the coming year.
As the day darkened, the sun gradually sank behind the waters.
Even in the strong winds, people stayed to watch the majestic end of 2014.
Witnessing the wonder of nature was a dignified experience for all who were present.
The sun disappearing over the horizon filled our hearts with nostalgia for 2014 and hope for 2015.
That was the final glimpse of the sun in 2014.
Greeting the New Year with Happiness and Joy
On the second day, the team headed east to take photos of the sunrise.
The beach soon filled with people hoping to catch a glimpse of the New Year’s sun.
The dawn started breaking as we rubbed our sleepy eyes.
The sun slowly lit the expanse between the vast sky and waters, which had been shrouded in darkness.
Within seconds, the scene before our eyes was painted in beautiful shades of red.
And so began 2015 with the first rising of the sun.
We hope that the New Year will be filled with hope for all of our readers.
