Plethora of wireless communication standards exist in the radio frequency regime.
The number of wireless devices will be increased rapidly in the future due to the numerous wireless
sensors and wearable devices. Thus, future communication devices need to operate underspectral crowding and reduced channel capacity. Under the spectrum congested environment
with multi communication standards, Cognitive Radio (CR) and Software-Defined Radio
attempts to achieve a broadband high performance wireless link with spectral and functional
efficiency.
This talk is focused on the broadband receiver solutions towards the realization of SDR and CR
concepts. Two different architectures are introduced: single-gm receiver and channelization
receiver architecture. The radio impairments determining the key performance of the
broadband radio are analyzed. Circuit level innovations to improve the RF and IF bandwidth are
discussed within the context of single-gm receiver architecture.
